The Chinese city of
Penglai, located on China's eastern coast has a long heritage of mysterious mirages appearing out in the sea. According to the China Daily newspaper, tourists have been traveling to Penglai for as many as 1,000 years, dating back to the Sung dynasty specifically to see the mirages first hand. On May 7th,
they were rewarded with yet another amazing apparition.
According to the Xinhua news service:
Modern high-rise buildings, broad city streets and bustling cars as well as crowds of people were all clearly visible.
